Lorsque les nains arrivèrent à la maison, ils trouvèrent Blanche-Neige allongée par terre. Ils lui crièrent dans les oreilles. Ils lui chatouillèrent les pieds. Ils lui versèrent de l’eau froide sur le visage. Mais elle ne se réveilla pas.
When the dwarfs arrived home, they found Snow White lying on the ground. They yelled in her ears. They tickled her feet. They poured cold water on her face. But she did not wake up.
« Est-elle morte ? » demanda l’un des nains.
« Elle n’a pas l’air vivante... » dit un autre.
"Is she dead?" asked one of the dwarfs.
"She doesn't seem to be alive..." said another.
Alors les nains fabriquèrent un beau cercueil en verre pour leur chère amie. Ils le posèrent sur une table entourée de fleurs dans un beau coin de la forêt.
So the dwarfs made a beautiful glass coffin for their dear friend. They put it on a table surrounded by flowers in a beautiful corner of the forest.
Blanche-Neige y resta allongée pendant plus d’un an : le printemps, l’été, l’automne et l’hiver.
Snow White lay there for more than a year: Spring, summer, autumn and winter.
Un jour, un prince se promenait dans la forêt avec son chien. Il vit l’étrange cercueil en verre. Il enleva les feuilles et vit Blanche-Neige à l’intérieur.
One day, a prince was walking in the forest with his dog. He saw the strange glass coffin. He brushed off (removed) the leaves and saw Snow White inside.
C’est à ce moment qu’il trébucha sur son chien et fit tomber le cercueil de la table ! Blanche-Neige roula du cercueil sur l’herbe.
« Oh zut! Oh flûte ! Oh punaise! » cria le prince.
It was just then that he tripped over his dog and knocked (made fall) the coffin off the table! Snow White rolled out of the coffin onto the grass.
"Oh no! Oh darn! Oh... fiddlesticks!" cried the prince.
Mais alors quelque chose de formidable se produisit :
Le morceau de pomme empoisonnée qui était coincé dans la gorge de Blanche-Neige se dégagea et elle se mit à tousser.
But then something amazing happened:
The piece of poisoned apple that was stuck in Snow White's throat fell out, and she began to cough.
« Pommes... » toussa-t-elle.
« Je vous demande pardon ? » dit le prince.
« Plus...de...pommes ! » toussa Blanche-Neige.
"Apples..." she coughed.
"I beg your pardon?" said the prince.
"No... more... apples!"
Cette nuit-là, la reine alla devant son miroir magique et lui posa sa question.
« Miroir, mon beau miroir, dis-moi qui est la plus belle ? »
That night, the queen stood in front of her magic mirror and asked her question:
"Mirror, my beautiful mirror, tell me who is the most beautiful?"
Et, à sa surprise, le miroir dit :
« Vous êtes très belle, ma Reine. Mais Blanche-Neige est à nouveau la plus belle femme du monde. »
And to her surprise, the mirror said:
"You are very beautiful, my queen. But Snow White is again the most beautiful woman in the world."
« QUOI ?! » hurla la reine. Et de colère, elle prit une chaussure et la lança sur le miroir.
Le miroir se brisa en mille morceaux et la magie qu’il contenait fut libérée.
"WHAAAAT?!" yelled the queen. And in anger, she grabbed a shoe and threw it at the mirror.
The mirror broke into a thousand pieces and the magic it contained was released.
« NOOOOON ! » hurla la reine. Puis, tout comme Blanche-Neige, elle tomba par terre et fut plongée dans un profond sommeil .
"NOOOOOOOOOO!" screamed the queen. And then, like Snow White, she collapsed to the ground and fell into a deep sleep.
Alors qu’elle dormait, la reine fit un rêve étrange. Dans son sommeil, elle dansait avec des chaussures de fer brûlantes. Ses pieds brûlaient encore et encore, mais elle ne pouvait pas s’arrêter de danser.
While she slept, the queen had a strange dream. In her dream she was dancing in shoes of hot iron. Her feet burned and burned (burned again and again) but she couldn't stop dancing.
Lorsque la Reine se réveilla de ce terrible rêve, c’était le matin. Le soleil brillait et la Reine se sentait...différente. Le sort du miroir magique avait été brisé alors elle n’était plus angoissée ou jalouse. Elle se sentait libre.
When the queen woke from this terrible dream, it was morning. The sun was shining, and the queen felt... different. The spell of the magic mirror had been broken, so she was no longer anxious or jealous. She felt free.
Elle descendit chercher son mari. Elle voulait vraiment jouer au Scrabble.
She went downstairs to find her husband. She really wanted to play Scrabble.
Et qu’advint-il de Blanche-Neige ?
And what happened to Snow White?
Les nains étaient très heureux de voir Blanche-Neige vivante. Ils invitèrent le prince à dîner. Lorsque le prince apprit qu’ils n’aimaient pas faire la vaisselle, il leur acheta un lave-vaisselle.
The dwarfs were very happy to see Snow White alive. They invited the prince to dinner. When the prince learned that they didn't like to do the dishes, he bought them a dishwasher.
Ils vécurent tous heureux jusqu’à la fin des temps.
They all lived happily ever after.
