That night, the emperor did not sleep. He stayed up late, reading the biggest and heaviest books in his library.

The emperor was happy to have seen the new clothes.
"Let's go to the parade!" He exclaimed.

The whole town was at the parade. All the smart people were there: All the scientists. All the writers. All the teachers. All the children.

The emperor waved to the crowd from his carriage. But as the carriage began to move down the street, the crowd fell silent.The music stopped. Everyone stared at the emperor.

Corrió a su habitación y cerró la puerta de un golpe.
He jumped out of the carriage and ran back to the palace. Behind him he heard:
"UN-DER-PANTS! UN-DER-PANTS!"
He ran to his room and slammed the door shut.
Más tarde, cuando sus amigos lo encontraron, estaba acostado en la cama. Se había puesto toda su ropa de verdad: todas sus camisas elegantes, todos sus pantalones elegantes, y los mil pares de calcetines elegantes.
Later, when his friends found him, he was lying on the bed. He was wearing all his real clothes: all his elegant shirts, all his elegant pants, and a thousand pairs of elegant socks.
