There was once a girl named Rapunzel. She lived in a tall tower in the forest. The tower had no ladder, no stairs and definitely no elevator. There was no way up or down.

Why did Rapunzel live in a tower? Well, it all started with a witch...
Como sabes, las brujas pueden ser muy celosas. Odian especialmente a las personas que roban hierbas de sus jardines. Pero desafortunadamente la madre de Rapunzel no sabía esto sobre las brujas.
As you know, witches can be very jealous. They particularly hate people who steal herbs from their gardens. But unfortunately Rapunzel's mother did not know this about witches.
Muchos años atrás, cuando estaba embarazada de Rapunzel, se escabulló sobre la cerca y robó un poco de perejil de la casa vecina, donde vivía la bruja.
Many years ago, when she was pregnant with Rapunzel, she slipped over the fence and stole a little parsley from the house next door, where the witch lived.
La bruja la vio robando perejil, y le dio a la madre de Rapunzel dos opciones.
The witch saw her stealing parsley, and gave Rapunzel's mother two options:
Opción uno: le echaría una maldición a su hija por nacer. La niña siempre sería desafortunada. Se encontraría con las personas equivocadas, diría cosas equivocadas, y usaría la ropa equivocada. Nunca viviría feliz para siempre.
Option one: She would curse her unborn child. The girl would always be unlucky. She would meet the wrong people, say the wrong things, and wear the wrong clothes. She would never live happily ever after.
Opción dos: en su décimo cumpleaños, la niña tendría que ir a vivir con la bruja y ser su aprendiz. La bruja prometió que, eventualmente, la niña podría vivir feliz para siempre.
Option two: On her tenth birthday, the girl would go to live with the witch and be her apprentice. The witch promised that, eventually, the girl could live happily ever after.
La madre de Rapunzel estaba desconsolada. Eligió la opción dos. Y la tarde del décimo cumpleaños de Rapunzel, llegó la bruja y se llevó a la niña a la alta torre en el interior del bosque.
Rapunzel's mother was heartbroken. She chose option two. And on the afternoon of Rapunzel's tenth birthday, the witch arrived and took the girl to the tall tower in the middle of the forest.
